Welcome to the Pink Fuzzy Monkey Burning Man Camp!

Who We Are

For thirteen years, our troop of Pink Fuzzy Monkeys have migrated to the playa, bringing along our natural jungle habitat.  We monkeys have a deep appreciation for our environment and the community that surrounds us. We encourage our community to play, dance, and monkey around.  Our daytime charging lounge, interactive games, and sunset parties draw in new monkeys off the street.  With a large community shade structure, we invite techno-tired-travelers to re-juiceify their electronics at our Banana Bunch charging stations. Tunes for every taste in our monkey lounge all day. Effervescent Sunset DJ sessions with our shaded 20x30 dance floor and 600‐watt sound system keep the sound intimate yet full of energy. We welcome new neighbors and friends to our 10x20 shaded lounge. This year, 2023, marks our 9th annual Super Hero Underwear Monkey Party serving tasty monkey juice (both alcoholic and mocktail) from the Monkey Bar. Historically we have hosted black light twister games but are beginning planning for a different interactive group game to replace it. On Tuesday and Thursday morning, between 11 and 2 we will also have more impromptu daytime dance parties/drinks to satisfy the morning monkeys. Stop by and chill for a bit, get out of the sun, and meet new friends, any time of the day.

Guiding Principles

Having been an established camp for 13 years, we have had time to hone our adherence to, and appreciation of the 10 principles. During planning, we encourage no more than one (or couple) guest per existing member in order to ensure that each member can be an effective steward of principles. This limitation allows the member to effectively prepare their guest for the event by encouraging them to help in planning, execution, and general integration into the camp and burning man culture.

One of the key points we drive into our members is that burning man is not a barter system. There is no expectation of reciprocity for the various activities we offer. We do suggest people bring a gift for the community, whether that be in the form of assistance with building, necklaces, or even gum. Often we find they provide an avenue to connect with others and open the doors of dialog.

All members are encouraged to de-moop all of items being brought out. Reusable bins are filled with items with as little of their original packaging as possible. Daily, we have two monkeys on duty to remind and encourage all monkeys to demoop the camp and surrounding areas several times per day. Everyone is provided a bag to facilitate moop pickup as they roam the playa. If a new person has brought a clothing item with sequins or feathers (or other moopiness), all campers are expected to remind them of the hazards and to put it back in their bag for use elsewhere.

All campmates sign up for camp chores to ensure our camp operates smoothly.  These chores include the daily moop patrol, kitchen cleanup, meal organization, sound equipment management, and generator safety. Additionally, we expect a majority of members to attend our participatory events (parties and games) and work to invite and encourage strangers to help create the incredible events we love to build. Beyond camp engagement, many camp members are active with the Temple Guardians, Census, Gate, Arctica, and Greeter teams. Leading by example encourages newcomers to get excited about the prospect and they often join those going to work in the hope of being able to participate.

During every planning meeting, preparations are discussed for not just the camp, but also for individuals. Members' guests are guided through what to bring via one-on-one discussions with their sponsor, and the camp planning meetings leave the table open for everyone ask clarifying questions about what they can/should bring.
